let's go fly a kite

We ended up missing the cherry blossoms by a few days - they weren't quite blooming yet.  But the trees in the St. Clairs' yard were flowering, so we thought perhaps the trees by the tidal basin were as well - alas.  Despite the lack of blossoms, it was a nice day anyway (albeit a bit windy, and therefore chilly at times); Jed and I met up with the St. Clairs near the Holocaust Museum and headed for the basin. After walking around a little while, we went to the lawn in front of the Washington Monument and flew their new kite.  Here are a few pictures:

While we waited near the metro for the St Clairs to arrive

James did a lot of pointing up at the kite, and Jed followed suit:

When the little ones became bored watching the kite in the air, they started a game with each other on top of a sewer covering.  It involved James placing a rock in front of Jed, or handing it to him, and Jed enthusiastically throwing it down - "Da!"  Hysterical laughter would follow.  James would faithfully pick it back up, return it to Jed, and the game would continue in that fashion.

When the rock throwing finally lost its appeal (I'm not sure why - who could ever tire of picking up a rock and throwing it back down again?), Jed wandered off to play by himself.  He discovered the fence with the low-hanging chain, and went in circles around and around one of the posts.  He seemed fascinated with the feel of the chain rubbing on his head as he *almost* ducked under it.

After the kite broke (I think James stepped on it), we headed to the Museum of American History for a little while before Jed and I had to catch the metro home.  The two of us met Don and Scott for dinner at Outback Steakhouse, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed, and by the time we got Jed home for bed he was one tired baby!  But a fun day is always worth it.
