four-month update

Jed is actually 4.5 months now, but who's counting?  When he turned 4 months old, I started my second day of tech rehearsal - I've hardly been near my computer since then.  So blogging has taken a backseat to more pressing things on my to-do list.

Jed is happy and healthy.  He weighs 15lbs 3oz, which according to the pediatrician is in the 50th percentile.  His length and head circumference are also perfectly average.  He is very social and LOVES to be smiled at, talked to, and played with.  He now notices when Scott and I leave the room, and will often get upset when he can't see us anymore.  He is, most of the time, very very happy and pleasant - as long as it's not naptime.

At-a-glance:

~ Jed now eats some solids - pears and sweet potatoes are what he has tried so far.  He seems to like them a lot, as long as he's not tired - at which point he has no patience for sitting up and working for his food.

~ He LOVES to be tossed into the air, swung around, and hung upside down.  The only thing that makes Jed laugh more is when I tickle him or Scott laughs.

~ He anticipates!  I love to see his eyes get excited when I sit over him and hold my hands up like I'm about to tickle him.  He starts smiling big and squirming before I even touch him.  And when I cradle him to nurse (the only time he'll tolerate being cradled), or he sees a bottle, he starts panting and flailing his arms frantically.  It's awesome to watch him make connections between what he sees and what is about to happen.

~ He is sitting up decently well these days - not by himself yet, except for the occasional 3-5 seconds before he topples that I can get out of him if he's concentrating.  But he does well in his Bumbo, or sitting on the floor holding onto someone's finger.  His biggest obstacle to sitting up by himself is the way he flings himself backward all the time.  He's certainly got the strength - but the balance, not so much.

~ Jed rolls from his back to his stomach frequently now.  The last few mornings when Scott or I have gone to get him from his crib, he has been on his belly - when during the night he got there, I have no idea.  When he's going to bed at night, we now have to help him back onto his back once or twice before he'll fall asleep. He doesn't HATE being on his stomach like he used to, but it upsets him a lot when he's tired.

~ He gets scared every time Scott coughs.  This is especially aggravating when he is nursing and is startled, becoming unlatched without breaking the suction gently first.

~ He hates naptime, and usually fights it with everything he's got.  But he practically begs to go to bed at night, and sleeps about 10 hours.  We LOVE that he does this.

Here are some pictures from the last little while:

Toes are so much fun!
I love that in the UR picture Jed is multi-tasking, grabbing his toes and the blanket at the same time.

Working on sitting up

He loves playing with his Mama...

And his Daddy...

And himself.

  3. I know! It's crazy how fast they grow. I'm still struggling to nurse so today we went to a support group, and all the other babies were only a week or two old and they all looked SO TINY compared to Jed!

Margaret, we would love to have you any time! I have no idea where we will move to in a year when Scott graduates, but we'll let you know of course. :)
