sledding

I've been meaning to play catch up on my blog - there are SO many pictures to show and things that we've done to talk about.  But the longer I go without blogging, the more overwhelmed I feel with the prospect of doing the catching up...so I put off blogging in favor of more immediate deadlines, thinking that I'll get around to it sometime (which is what started the backlog in the first place).

So here I am, just starting with what we did TODAY.  I'll play catch-up later.  Or maybe not.

Sunday brought us snow, and a canceled Christmas concert.  The morning snow wasn't really the problem, but in the afternoon the temperature dropped and any moisture on the roads turned to ice.  Unusually, midnight brought a rise in the temperature, and almost everything had melted by morning.  The winter storm we had been warned about seemed awfully pathetic.  It wasn't quite finished, though, and we did get more snow today.  On a whim, we invited ourselves to go sledding with some friends, the Dixons, that have a little girl a few months older than Jed - the two of them are BEST friends.  When we got to their house, the 10-month-old was taking a nap, so he stayed home with his dad (campus is closed today so he was working from home) while the rest of us bundled up to face the slushy snow.  Jed sat in the baby's carseat, which still faces backward, and after buckling the kiddos in we balanced the sled on top of the two carseats - Maylee and Jed thought that playing peek-a-boo underneath the sled from carseats that faced each other was FABULOUS.  It was a short ride to the hill by the tennis courts (which we were grateful for on the way back, when the kids were wet and freezing), which was small but enough for the toddlers to enjoy.  Maylee enjoyed sledding but wanted to wander around in the snow (and sit in a puddle) just as much as she wanted to sled, but Jed just wanted to go down the hill again and again and again.  We warmed up inside with hot chocolate and Christmas music.  What a fun morning!

They struggled at first to fit both of their bodies on the sled.

M tried to lie back on the sled but missed.

So serious!

These smiles say "uh, we're pretty cold!"
