playing catch-up: san francisco, august 2014

Our last trip of the summer was a week in San Francisco with my Aunt Vicki and Uncle Ron.  Scott was presenting at the annual ASA conference, which was in SF this year, so Jed and I tagged along as our final hurrah of the summer before my shows start up again.  Vicki and Ron have 2 girls, Lila (10) and Eden (7), and Jed adored them (and so did we, of course!).  They (including my aunt and uncle) have never met Jed, and I have never met Eden, so it was nice to get everyone together!  The girls thought Jed was the coolest thing in the world, and played with him constantly.  It was so cute to see the 3 of them play together, and a couple of times Lila had friends over – and then Jed had a full entourage of girls trying to teach him new words, how to climb down the spiral stairs, how to play board games, giggling and repeating the silly things he says, etc.  

Jed went on a nap strike halfway through, but besides that we had a fabulous time!  Scott spent 4 of the days we were there at his conference, but was able to hang out with the rest of us outside of that.  We went to a children’s museum in San Jose, Fitzgerald Marine Preserve to look at the reef at low tide (lots of anemones, crabs, fish, and seaweed!  It was really cool), the Randall Museum (native animals and huge model train room), Delores Park, Children’s Fairyland in Oakland, the Golden Gate Bridge, Twin Peaks, and the twisty part of Lombard Street.

We also went to the local playground down the street several times, and spent plenty of time playing in the backyard and in the house.  Ron and Vicki also baby-sat for us one evening so Scott and I could go on a date – we ate dinner in Chinatown, then walked down to the water and saw the Bay Bridge.  Ron cooked lots of delicious food for us, and we went out a few times as well.  Of course we tried one of the many famous taco trucks, which are all over the city – I could certainly get used to having those around more often!
