The first day of our vacation at Glacier National Park was a little windy and cold, but not too bad. We started the day by taking a boat from the Many Glacier Hotel across Lake Swiftcurrent, hiking a little ways, riding another boat across Lake Josephine, and then hiking to Grinnell Lake. While we waited for the boat, the kids took turns holding Jed. He was an instant hit (Jed is the one being squished in the middle):
Here are some views from the boat:
On the way to Grinnell Lake, we took a steep but short side trail to see a waterfall. Here is my niece Penelope and I in front of it:
When we got to Grinnell Lake, we were all happy to sit and enjoy a snack, which the kids had been begging for during the hike. The view was beautiful! Jed played on the ground and tugged on a nearby tree.
After we had hiked back from Grinnell Lake and ridden the 2 boats back to the hotel, we continued on to the next hike. Jed needed a nap and I wasn't feeling well, so I opted to stay in the car while everyone else went. Scott started the hike with them and then came back for me, and after enjoying some ice cream we decided to walk a little ways. Unfortunately, Jed did not nap well in the car - so we decided that he may as well see some beautiful scenery. We saw a deer on the way:
After everyone was done hiking, we ate dinner at Many Glacier Hotel, and then drove back to the cabins (with Jed screaming most of the way because he was hungry, and so tired from lack of naps). At the cabins, the kids found a caterpillar (I don't know if it was dead when they found it, or if something happened to it after the kids got a hold of it) and buried it with a ceremony and everything:

Looks like a beautiful trip...gotta love babies and travel...lack of naps always does them in!
