At the end of the first flight on Saturday, I asked if Jed could get his picture taken with the pilot. I thought the answer would be no, this being a post-9/11 world and all, but thought I might as well ask anyway. To my surprise, the pilot and co-pilot were happy to oblige, and though we had to be quick because the next crew was waiting to board the plane, I was able to get a couple of shots of Jed with them. I hoped that he wouldn't get scared and cry - but he was too fascinated with all the buttons and blinking lights to be frightened. Instead, he flapped his arms excitedly, squealed with delight, and tried to grab something - anything - because it all looked so cool.

After arriving in Austin, Jed and I stayed for a week at my Mom's house. It was so much fun to visit with family in the Austin area, and show Jed off, of course! My mother had seen Jed already, as she came out to stay with us for 2 weeks shortly after he was born. But none of my siblings had met him (or any of my aunts/uncles/cousins in Austin), so it was really great for Jed to meet so much family. Sunday night some of my aunts and uncles came over with all their kids, and my siblings too. The rest of the week was spent taking it easy - we all enjoyed going to the pool, playing at the park, doing a jigsaw puzzle, playing card games, taking walks, hanging out with friends/family, and relaxing.

My mom has 2 large & high energy dogs, but Jed didn't seem to mind at all. They, of course, were very curious about the new toy we kept calling Jed, and wanted to play with it all the time. Jed would watch with fascination as the dogs wrestled with each other, played tug-of-war (with either each other or one of us) or ran to fetch the rope I would throw down the hallway. They occasionally scared him, but for the most part Jed was just as interested in playing with the puppies as they were with him.

Motorcycle ride! Not moving, of course.
Even so, Jed looks unsure about it. |
