summer adventure day 3

We started with Logan Pass on Sunday.  It's a 3-mile round-trip hike to the Hidden Lake overlook, and is gorgeous the whole way.  The hikes we had done on Saturday had been in the trees, but this hike was up the side of a mountain out in the open.  We went to the visitor's center, and most of the group began the hike right away.  Dave and Laura stayed behind with Jed and Christian, and Jed fell asleep on Laura's shoulder, which made her happy:

Most of the hike was on a boardwalk like this:

But some of it was this type of terrain:

Because the sun was out and so many people had hiked through it, the snow was pretty slushy.  Which made it very slippery.  Scott and I turned around before the mountain got TOO steep, because we knew that every step we took uphill was a step we'd have to take back down.  All in all, we probably hiked about 2 miles instead of the full 3.

We continued to drive through Glacier National Park on the Going to the Sun Road, stopping to take pictures when things looked interesting.  We saw some large waterfalls, and lots of little ones that trickled down the mountain and ran across the road.  There were also lots of pretty flowers along the side of the road.  Not to mention, of course, the majestic mountains that towered above everything.

Our plan had been to drive all the way to the West Entrance, but we didn't quite make it before we had to turn around in order to get back to the cabins in time to make dinner.  But we were able to stop and splash in the river:

And see Jackson Glacier:

When we got back to the cabins, we roasted hot dogs on the campfire and the kids splashed in the little stream that ran nearby.  Since it was Sunday, we had our own church service after dinner by taking turns sharing a scripture and talking about it.  Even the children shared, and a few of them (ages 3, 6, and 9) even recited their scripture from memory.  Then we roasted marshmallows, sent the kids to bed, and the adults stayed up around the campfire talking and enjoying the company of family.
